🌿 Belvan – Lakshmi Ji Tapasya Sthal

📍 Location

Belvan (also called Bilva Van) is one of the 12 sacred forests (Dwadash Van) of Braj.It is located near the Yamuna River in the Braj region, close to Mathura and not far from Vrindavan in Uttar Pradesh, India.

🌸 Why Belvan is Famous?

Belvan is known as the Tapasya Sthal (place of penance) of Goddess Lakshmi.

According to Braj tradition:

  • Lakshmi desired to participate in Krishna’s Rasa Leela.

  • To attain eligibility, she performed severe penance (tapasya) in Belvan.

  • However, she could not enter the Rasa Leela because it requires the mood of pure gopi devotion.

Thus, Belvan is remembered as the sacred place where Lakshmi Ji performed meditation for Krishna.

🌳 Meaning of “Belvan”

  • “Bel” (Bilva) refers to the sacred bael tree.

  • “Van” means forest.

This forest was filled with Bel (Bilva) trees, which are considered sacred in Hindu tradition.
